As a Jig, Fixture & Tooling your role will be to define and engineer solution for automated component jigs & fixtures, establishing best practice manufacturing processes and methodology to ensure world class productivity and competitiveness can be achieved within a well established global organisation.
Position: Jig & Tool Production/ Design Engineer
Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum
Location: West Midlands
Main duties and responsibilities:
o Apply design for Manufacturability (DFM) principals to evaluate and specify component handling and fixture requirements and produce conceptual design solutions
o Interpret product CAD data for products, tooling, fixtures, manufacturing equipment and facilities
o Produce tooling, jigs & fixture, equipment and associated facility drawings to support manufacturing, quality and engineering activities
o Project management of tooling suppliers.
o Design jigs & fixtures plus associated tooling for automated manufacturing processes that facilitate quick tool change - SMED
o Improving uptime and reducing maintenance costs of tooling
o Participate in root-cause analysis and implement counter-measures
o Understand and interpret 3D FEA for distortion and correction of tooling design
o Maintain master tool drawings and facilitate access to Toolroom staff for all tooling maintenance - minimizing downtime and costs
o Be required to mentor & develop junior Manufacturing Engineers as necessary
Good understanding of material selections, dimensional capability statistics and GD&T
Knowledge and Education
You will already have a proven track record working as a Production Engineer or Design Engineer, producing jigs & fixtures and associate automated tooling within a high volume manufacturing facility.
o HND/Degree in an Engineering related subject
o Proficient using 3D CAD software, CATIA desirable
o Jig & fixtures and robot/ automated tooling specification, design and vendor management. Robot automation systems knowledge- grippers, component handling etc
o Understanding of Lean Manufacturing methodologies and how to apply them in practice
o Knowledge of complex product assembly, machining, casting or presswork production processes and related capital machinery
