A market leading manufacturer of safety critical products used in a range of industries currently seeking a Design Engineer to assist in the design & development of a new range of products.
The position of Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for producing 3D models and 2D technical drawings and also producing and testing prototypes and overseeing projects from concept to manufacture.

Location: Birmingham, commutable from Coventry, Solihull, Tamworth, Coleshill areas
Summary of Position
The role has responsibility for the design and development of new and existing safety critical lighting products and associated components. When necessary this may include the development of prototypes, working closely with the Operations team to ensure that design for manufacture "DFM/DFA" principles are optimized throughout the development process.
o Undertake specific design and development projects, ensuring that all aspects of project meet the required objectives from concept through to production
o Ensure that existing and new products are designed to achieve the necessary compliance with the relevant technical and certification
o Prepare and maintain drawings, certification and technical files, data sheets, BOMs
o Maintain a good working knowledge of the relevant certification and quality standards required by the business
You will already be an accomplished Product or Mechanical Design Engineer ideally developing products for highly compliant or regulated industry sector.
o HNC/ Degree Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
o Experience of designing products to meet environmental ingress (IP rated), thermal, shock or electrical testing would be highly desirable eg: lighting, electrical switchgear, enclosure design, rail, aerospace or similar regulated industry.
o Experience of safety critical or hazardous area applications and relevant standards
o 3D CAD design, modelling and drafting skills
o Good knowledge of manufacturing and production practices and DFA principals
