Part of a large privately owned manufacturing group, this precision component manufacturer is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to oversee the design department and implement new product design & development on time and to the required standards.
Location: Redditch, Worcestershire
As a Senior Engineer, you will provide support and leadership for a small team of Mechanical Design Engineers involved in a range of product design projects. You will review, assess and monitor engineering and process integrity during NPD development; introduce and encourage product integrity improvements throughout the VA/VE process and the product range.
o Lead the creative innovation of new product designs
o Manage design department to create new products to schedule
o Develop a robust FMEA process to improve the integrity within the design of new and modified products to ensure product designs meet specification requirements and to enable consistency of manufacture
o Use of VAVE and Lean techniques to deliver on the right balance of quality, aesthetics, cost and speed to market on every project
o Ensure the correct processes are followed to support Change Management
o Build a close relationship with the manufacturing teams in the UK and Asia, both internal and external, and collaborate to ensure designs are consistent with process capability
Applications are sought from experienced Mechanical Design Engineers, Senior Engineers, CAD Designers or even Design Managers who would flourish in a small to medium size organisation as part of the senior management team.
o Engineering qualifications related to mechanical design – HND/ Degree or equivalent
o Strong record in successful mechanical or electro-mechanical product design with associated knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, diecasting, plastic injection moulding, metal pressing, assembly and finishing
o Proficient utilising 3D CAD design software ideally Solid Works
o Collaborative approach with good communication, team-working and leadership attributes coupled with coaching, mentoring and training skills
o Ability to find creative solutions to complex engineering problems
o Able to modernise, bring fresh ideas and confidently challenge the status quo in a fast-changing environment
o Understanding of industry standards and regulations
