Part of a major national automotive supplier, this organisation has a newly created opportunity within the business for an experienced production manager to join the company and support its production facility across the company's 2 shift patterns, overseeing a team of 90 staff per shift.
Production Shift Manager
Location: Kent; Commutable from Gillingham, Maidstone, Chalton
Salary: Up to £47,000 per annum plus benefits, based upon experience
Main duties and responsibilities:
O Manage the team on best practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading teams.
O Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing
O Assist in the planning, development and implementation of strategy for operational management and development so as to meet and, where possible, exceed organisational performance plans within the agreed budgets and timescales within the manufacturing areas.
O Ensure day-to-day efficiency of operations for the Business Unit i.e. accountable for Direct resource planning, execution of delivery of production schedule/customer requirements, whilst ensuring budget compliance.
O Contribute to the evaluation and development of operational strategy and performance plans.
O Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of operational management.
O Manage production targets to agreed daily, weekly and monthly plan by liaising with Logistics; agreeing and setting the plan, batch sizes and output targets.
O Identify & support material and Labour Improvements
O Manage the cost of labour, materials and consumables within agreed budgets, manage individual product costs to standards and advise on capital equipment requirements
O Advise factory capacity requirements to achieve sales plan in conjunction with logistic plan utilisation and resources.
O Produce product to agreed quality standards. Dealing with customer issues and implementing sustainable solutions through systems and engineering. Manage scrap within agreed targets
O In conjunction with Maintenance, ensure reliability and capability of machinery and plant within the department.
O Maximise machine/manpower utilisation, ensuring minimum downtime relating to changeovers and clean downs, optimising efficient plant output and scheduling maintenance to optimise plant reliability
O Monitor, measure and report on operational issues, opportunities, plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales.
Knowledge and experience required:
O Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred, or HND, BTEC Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualifications.
O Excellent leadership and people management skills
O Excellent interpersonal skills
O Ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members
O Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
O Excellent organisational and follow-up skills
O Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making
O Extensive plant level experience with significant proven supervisory experience
O Technical understanding
O Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Kaizen, lean manufacturing
O Experience of managing Profit & Loss responsibilities for manufacturing
O Understanding of manufacturing and procurement/supply chain
O Understanding of TS16949, IOSH/NEBOSH, ISO 14001
O Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
