Part of a major international group, this organisation has recently built a new manufacturing facility to produce complex high value components for the automotive industry and is seeking to hire an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee their domestic toolroom.
Tool Room Manager
Salary: c £55000 + car allowance + benefits
Location: West Midlands ( commutable from North Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Stafford, Telford areas )
Reporting to the Plant Manager, as the Toolroom Manager you will be responsible for all aspects of in-house tool manufacturing, maintenance, development and testing activities to ensure the business objectives are met, to maximise productivity and maintain the highest levels of workmanship for all tooling activities.
o Manage the running and planning activities of the tool room facilities and toolmakers, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements
o Manage the team of Die Maintenance Technicians to meet production KPIs and ensure best practice and procedures are achieved
o Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice tool room vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
o Supports Operations and Engineering to manage and guarantee on time availability of tools to ensure continuous production and increase of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
o Manage, coach and develop a high performing tool room team that meets agreed objectives, and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
o Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
o Support tool design review and buy off process
o Prepare and maintain Tool Room budget plus forecasts for Capital Expenditure proposals
The Successful Applicant
You will be an experienced Toolroom Manager or Engineering Manager who has experience running a tool room facility in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
o Excellent leadership and man- management skills, coaching and developing a large team of skilled die maintenance technicians over two shifts
o Ideally completed a Toolmaker apprenticeship or has significant engineering experience gained in either toolmaking or tool maintenance
o Experience of large dies & tooling (in excess of 10T-50T) for metal stampings, plastic moulding, casting or similar
o Commercial aware, managing budgets with departmental Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibility
o Excellent organisation, communication and problem solving skills. Team building, planning and decision making ability
o Apprentice trained HNC/ City & Guilds / Degree or equivalent in an engineering or technical discipline.
o IOSH/ NEBOSH Certificate and leadership training highly desirable
